Trader Resources : Reading Symbols
Futures contract symbols have three elements associated with them. There is the symbol of the underlying commodity, the month, and the year. CZ5, for example, represents December 2005 Corn, where C is the symbol for corn futures contracts, Z is the month code for December, and 5 denotes 2005. Here is a list of month codes:

• F - January
• G - February
• H - March
• J - April
• K - May
• M - June
• N - July
• Q - August
• U - September
• V - October
• X - November
• Z - December
